Privacy Policy

This website, smittytone.net is operated by Black Pyramid Software, a trading name of Tony Smith. The applications described by smittytone.net, including but not limited to, ASCII, Fontismo, imageprep, MNU, pdfmaker, PreviewCode, PreviewMarkdown, PreviewYaml, Squinter, FightingFantasy, The Valley and utitool, do not collect, store or transmit any data that can be used to identity their user (“personal data”) with the exception of those instances outlined below. It is Black Pyramid Software’s policy never to knowingly infringe its users’ privacy.

Application Specifics

Squinter asks that you enter your Electric Imp Account credentials — your account name and password — in order to sign into the Electric Imp impCloud™. You may choose not to enter these credentials, if you wish. If you do enter your Electric Imp Account credentials, you may also permit Squinter to store them securely in your computer’s keychain. This is so that you will not need to enter them when you use Squinter again. You may also choose not to store your Electric Imp Account credentials in this way. Squinter uses and, if you allow, stores these credentials solely for the purpose of signing into your Electric Imp Account.

Fontismo, PreviewCode, PreviewMarkdown, PreviewJson, PreviewText and PreviewYaml are available from the Apple iOS and macOS App Stores. As such the host operating system may link your Apple ID to your purchases, but the apps themselves do not collect, store or transmit any personal data.

User Feedback

MNU, PreviewCode, PreviewMarkdown, PreviewYaml, PreviewJson, PreviewText and Squinter allow users to submit feedback to Black Pyramid Software. This feedback is accompanied by the following data:

The user’s macOS version.
The application name and version.
The UTI of a sample Markdown file (PreviewMarkdown only).
The UTI of a sample YAML file (PreviewYaml only).

No personal data is included by default, but a user submitting feedback may chose to include personal data, such as an email address, within their feedback in order for Black Pyramid Software to contact them and request further information about the issue that the user has encountered. Any personal data submitted this way is taken to be provided with the active permission of the user. Such data will be retained solely for the purpose of engaging with the user — for example, by email — and solely for the duration of the extended conversation. Such conversations may be of short duration or take place over a long period, so we cannot say for how long a specific piece of personal data in this context may be retained. However, the personal data will be removed once that conversation has concluded.

Any user may ask through these apps’ feedback mechanism what, if any, personal data we currently hold about them, and to modify or delete any such information. We will action such requests as quickly as possible, but we may not be able to do so immediately.

Broadly, the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) requires that personal data be:

Processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner.
Collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes, and not further processed in a manner incompatible with those purposes.
Adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary for achieving those purposes.
Accurate and kept up to date.
Stored no longer than necessary to achieve the purposes for which it was collected.
Properly secured against accidental loss, destruction or damage.

Black Pyramid Software abides by these strictures to the extent that it processes any user’s personal data, irrespective of the country in which they live and whether that country has not enacted GDPR or equivalent legislation, as outlined above.
